The current name dates back to 1934; prior to that, the village was known as Γαλαζάκι (Galazáki, in Greek, meaning "little blue") or Kalanca (in Turkish).

Does Lahana 1 have lifeguards?
No — Lahana 1 is officially classified as unguarded. There are no lifeguards on duty, so swimmers are responsible for their own safety. The flag colour shown on this page is a forecast-based estimate, not an official lifeguard signal.
Is Lahana 1 a Blue Flag beach?
Lahana 1 does not currently hold the Blue Flag award. This is purely a programme certification — it does not mean the beach is unsafe. Many excellent beaches are not enrolled in the programme.
